Title: Super Secret Site Features Preview
Post by: meridianblade on June 28, 2006, 11:48:45 PM
Ive been working on this a few hours a night and its going to be a month or two before its ready for general public but here is a alpha preview of the new game tracking and cheat code system for the site. Its pretty exciting for me because its turning into a rather LARGE project, so I felt like showing a few ugly screenshots as a early proof of concept. There's no css or graphics yet so its VERY basic. I'm busy getting the coding and database development down before its pretty-fied.

I plan for it to have a ton of information for each game, as you can see from the screenshots. Each game page will have links to reviews, previews, cheats, screenshots and other misc. information.

I am also going to need some testers to beat the shit out of the code and make sure its ready for the masses, which I'm sure you all will volunteer to do, before its ready to go live ;-)

Enjoy.

ewwww dreamweaver!!

try this awsome program thats better then dreamweaver, its called notepad, its used for making webpages the good way :)

could use a lot of work, making the pages themselves only take like 10mins for #s,A-Z, i know ive done it befor for a website.

Looks like a lot of work, but it looks great so far! Don't forget about strategy games as a genre! I think the site will really benefit from it.

No I will not use notepad. Try writing a few thousand lines of code, one in a program that color codes and automatically formats and indents your code and then do the same in notepad. One will be easier to read :-)

Remember I've only spend like 5 hours on this so far so its not even 5% done, still plenty of features to go.

Also I don't have to create pages for #'s, and A-Z and for that matter anything that's dynamic so far in the system. The way I have the code setup right now is that I just pass ?usealpha=true&letter=a to the parser and it automatically pulls A data from the database and generates a page for it listing all the A's. This works the same for genre's and cheat codes. Doing it this ways, I only have to make 5 or 6 template pages for the entire system that will hold 70 or more games when the system launches.

Metroid I'll add that in.

Thanks for the comments guys :-)

Wow, you've got a lot done for just 5 hours! I think this is the perfect time to install the database, before the Wii launches. That way it will be easy to get every game in there as it comes out and you don't have to catch up.

Yeah, the computers at my school have Dreamweaver on them as well. Which we've had to use to make websites with, ourselves.

We used Yahoo Geocities, and had to do the HTML ourselves when we were making our websites at my school.   I guess that's why my HTML skills are limited to color and font changes and lists. :(

We had to make hyperlinks that linked onto our other pages and stuff. So yeah, we only had very basic insructions as well, really.

I think we only had to do one page, but I did several so I did stuff like that too. I learned a lot of stuff from just guess and check.
