Title: Classic Controller
Post by: Balisong on February 13, 2007, 02:03:21 PM
Just a quick question that might spark a few responses: what does everyone think of the classic controller? I have a Wavebird that has served me well over the years, but it looks fun to play with, despite some minor problems I can see (like the fact that it needs to plug into the Wiimote.)

Any advice/recommendations?

This page sums it up:

http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2006/11/09/no-rumble-in-nintendo-wiis-classic-controller-compatibility-overview-shows-n64-games-might-use-gamecube-controllers-for-rumble.htm

The Gamecube controller (or wavebird) is better and cheaper.

No real reason to get a classic, unless you think that it looks cooler than a Gamecube control.

Hahaha... I do think the design is snappy, just not $20 snappy.

That article really did sum it up. Wavebird all the way.

i personally hate the gamecubes button setup so the classic controller was my favorite pick. i like the whole symmetry and feel of the classic controller. only thing i dont like about the classic controller is the fact that the thing plugs into the wii-mote so it adds to the battery killing machine the wii-mote already is. btw, the wavebird costs 34.99 new at eb games and gamestop.... how is that cheaper than 20 for the classic controller?! either way, when killer instinct comes to the vc ill need the classic controller anyway as the gamecube button layout will be useless when trying to get orchids 48 hit combo to connect.

The wavebird is much preferable to the classic.  End of story.

EB Games/Gamestop always overcharges for crap. Wavebird is more expensive, but for $10 more, you can play your Gamecube games as well. The battery life is amazing on the Wavebird as well.

Oh poo...I darn screwed up again. I meant cheaper for a regular gamecube controller because thats what I'm probably going to get if I need a controller in the future or want to play some old gamecube games cause I'm cheap.

I hear ya. I have a Wavebird since I'm a wireless whore now thanks to the Wii. At least you get rumble in the chorded gamecube controllers.

I'd be down with a modded NES controller that was wireless for NES VC games.  I wouldn't know where to start doin' the mod, tho'.

a wireless one would be near impossible but not totally impossible. best that i could do is a wired one, youd just need to correctly convert the nes plug to the gamecube plug but thats easier said than done.

I like the classic controller resembling the snes conrtoller, but can't make me reach into my pocket for $20. Hasn't anyone heard of RetroZone? They have adapters that fit into the gamecube controller port and then you are able to plug in your NES or SNES controller. When the VC games that will require something other than a gamecube controller I will be picking up these.

they have wireless av ports....... not for the wii but they do. the picture quality is usually much lower than the fa' real cables. ive experimented with them and youd be much better off keeping those cables. ill be happy with my classic controller and wired av cables thank you.
