Article: Rockstar: Rally behind us and Manhunt 2

' ]
Some are saying that there's a slim possibility that the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) may reconsider its ban on Nintendo Wii and PlayStation Portable video game Manhunt 2 after Rockstar has appealed its decision. If you think Rockstar is going to wait quietly, you are dead wrong.

Rockstar Leeds Co-founder and Studio Head Gordan Hall was recently interviewed by Develop Mag and according to the industry veteran, what BBFC did to Manhunt 2 is ultimately an attack to the video gaming industry. He said:

[blockquote]

If you look at a film like Man Bites Dog, it makes Manhunt
look tame in comparison, but that film can be bought by anyone aged 18.
I don't think Rockstar specifically has been picked on, but I do think
that the wider issue attacks our entire industry. We need to teach
people that games are an art form - they are more artistic than film.

Article: Another Wii Firmware Upgrade

' ]
Is your Wii glowing blue right now? I know mine is! That's right, Nintendo has released yet another firmware update. According to Ninty, the latest update fixes a problem where the Wii
would freeze if a user tried to reset the console while using the Wii
Web browser, as well as "stability issues" with a LAN-powered Internet
connection.

Article: Mr. Thompson, Make My Day

The Wii version of Manhunt 2 had been reviewed before it was even able
to hit the shelves. The review explains how great of an addition it is
to the Nintendo Wii and that the violent content isn't the only thing
to see. The question is, will this review have a positive effect on the
game's release or will it give Jack another reason to make sure this
grisly sequel stays off store shelves?

[blockquote]
Manhunt 2 is one of the best games on Wii. The astonishing level of
brutality is an integral part of the experience, and probably the
aspect that delighted fans and appalled detractors alike will focus on,
but there’s a lot more to it than just digital blood.

Article: Manhunt 2 appeal may take “months”

' ]

While Manhunt fights its crippling Adults
Only rating in the US, Rockstar Games' appeal to overturn the complete
ban handed out in the UK by the BBFC isn't looking like a quick fix
deal. Indeed, UK-based fans may have to swallow the prospect of the
appeal dragging out for months rather than weeks.

[blockquote]
Rockstar announced it would be appealing Manhunt 2’s ban in the UK last
week, but UK trade paper MCV has now warned that the developer could be
in for a lengthy scrap with the BBFC before the appeals process is done
and dusted. And, as MCV grimly points out, that could mean the hype
surrounding the game may well have died down by the time it appears on
   store shelves.

It shouldn't do that, and it doesn't expand for me... can you take a screenshot? Besides advertisements are necessary evil. Wii-volution doesn't run on some shared hosting account and for that, it costs us big money :-( Ads should not be obtrusive though.

Article: Wii Homebrews Killed? There`s Still Hope! SDload

' ]
After seeing reports that the latest Wii update effectivly killed many modded Wii's  and the commercial SD Media Launcher, is all hope lost for WIi homebrews? Well, we're here to tell you that if your stealth chipped Wii survived the 3.0 update, your SD Media Launcher is more or less bricked. Here's the good news though: There's a little open source project for the Gamecube called SDload.

[blockquote]
SDload by Costis and Parasyte is a tool which allow users to load and
run DOLs from SD cards on unmodified GameCubes. It also supports
loading DOLs through a BroadBand Adapter, like PSOload.

[/blockquote]

Since the Wii is effectivly a GCN on steroids, this homebrew loader works with flying colors even after the Wii update. You can see my copy running in the image (the fingerprints on the screen aren't mine I swear) You'll need a MicroSD to GCN memory card converter for this to work as the DVD is only the bootloader for the files on the memory card. Of course your milage will vary depending on your chip and whats avaliable for it, but I know WI-IC  works fine.

Disclaimer: We don't suggest ever chipping your Wii, not only will you void your warrently, but there's a good chance you'll end up with a $250 dollar paperweight. We're providing this mearly as a proof of concept. Those soldering points are small and scary, believe me!

Article: Latest Wii Update Kills all Mod Chips?

' ]
Some users are reporting this specific prompt while upgrading to the latest Wii System Update shown in the image, stating that their "unauthorized technical modifications" aka Mod Chip may cripple their machine upon update. Personally, I didn't experience this message here at Wii-volution but that could be because the chip that was sent to us for review is a stealth drive chip. I'll quote myself here:

"A drive-chip which is a simple hardware modification chip that modifies
the way the Wii's DVD optical drive works. It is connected directly to
console DVD drive and not the main motherboard. Wii Drive chips don't
interface with any other component in the system. Also this means the mod chip is a stealth chip, and by nature of the technology and where it's
positioned on the hardware, it cannot be detected or disabled by the
frequent Wii firmware updates."

So technically speaking, if your running a stealth drive chip you shouldn't see this prompt. If you do i'd follow the instructions, power down, and contact your mod chips manufacturer for a firmware upgrade of sorts if available before going through with the upgrade.
