Does this somehow work with the filesharing you already have or does this bust that port wide open to the rest of the world as well?  How safe is this to run?  Can someone outside the home network also access the files?

I would want these questions definitely answered before installing this.

It's the cross-platform part that scares me... It'd be one thing if this worked using Windows File Sharing, but how can it be cross-platform?

Also, does this work on Vista?

I tested it and it seems to open up http://192.168.1.101:8192/ which is inside my network on my local machine. So unless your port forwarding traffic to 8192, or are running insecure wireless, no one's able to access that but whoevers on your LAN.

Looking at it, it does ignore your filesharing since it uses java and ajax to bypass anything windows set up. I dunno about vista, I don't see why it wouldnt work or anything.

Best bet is if your worried, don't use it :-)

I really like the potential this program has. Mostly the ability to finally stream MP3s from my computer to my home theater system without having to shell out more money on hardware. Since I cant seem to find a disconnect type button on the program, if I just close out the window its running in does it shut down the server? I'm asking just in case there is a security issue with it then it wont be open all the time, just the selected moments when I need to use it.

It allows you to access files saved on your PC with your Wii over the internet. So once all its features are finalized you will be able to play videos, pictures, and MP3s on you wii that are all saved to your PC's hard drive.

I have a few videos converted and streaming, I think this is really awesome. Right now mp3's don't work, but they should fix that soon. Originally videos didn't work well, that was fixed pretty quickly.

the media center is built on top of a tiny Java web server and it's pretty independence, so when you close it, it shuts down. No worries about it running in the background.
