Soldered the mod chip in a little bit ago I received from wi-ic.com. I was rather scared since I don't have any use for a $250 paper weight. It works perfect, I burned a backup of The Godfather at 22x since I was antsy to try it out... It does bypass protection and show the dashboard splash screen, and the first few frames of the game, but stops with a read error. I can only assume its because I burned it 20 times faster than recommended (DREs are very common with backups). Im letting it burn at 6x over night and i'll test it again in the morning. We'll see! :-)

Oh yes, it works perfect. I'll have a full review on this soon.

Since MeridianBlade had gotten a chip from wi-ic.com, the OS is upgradable through a disk image.

I'm glad you didn't accidentally bridge the board while soldering like one of my friends did.

You're brave! I don't know if I could solder my wii, if I had one. Sounds great though, I'll have to look into it.

I came real close to it... the soldering job was incredibly difficult.

My friens and I soldered a few consoles back in the day. The ps2 and the Dreamcast. Both were tricky but once you get it you can play burned and imported games.

I really would like to consider chipping my Wii but with the new chipset , Im not about to try my hand at 28 solder points. Guess I'll just have to hold on until they come out with another option.
