"Wii Retailing For $299? Come Again?

711, NEVER FORGET First, the good news. All you chubbies swilling down Slurpees, Big Bites, and Beef Taquitos can work off those extra calories with your Wii wand. Masters of convenience 7-Eleven will be giving away 711 Wiis as part of a promotional contest this holiday season.

The bad news? Price point confusion at 7-Eleven corporate! Or is there? The contest rules clearly define the approximate retail value of one Nintendo Wii, with no games or accessories included in the prize listing. See?

"    November 1, 2006 through January 31, 2007 the following Instant Prizes will be available to be won: (711) Nintendo Wii, ARV: $299.99 USD ($399.99 CDN) each; and (100) $60.00 USD ($70.00 CDN) Video Game Shopping Sprees awarded in the form of VISA® Gift Cards (subject to issuer's terms and conditions)."

So, what gives? Are 7-Eleven playing it safe with a higher ARV until Nintendo hammers out the details for its MSRP? Is this a bundle SKU? Have I gone acronym crazy? I wouldn't start cutting out that spare kidney, yet, as I'm fairly confident Nintendo will stick to its promised $249 or lower price point.
"

I can't imagine they could lie because of the legality stuff so it must be the price don't you think?

That's what was previously thought, so that's why this is big news if it's true.

Well it doesn't matter much to me if it's $50 more. I'll have to wait till Christmas to get my parents to buy me one anyway.

Here is an excerpt from a report by IGN:

Quote
So the big question is, when will Wii launch? The only official answer from Nintendo is sometime before the Thanksgiving holiday in America. But sources — both on the hardware and development side — argue that the console will be hitting much sooner.

…several insiders have told IGN that November 2 could, in fact, be the big day…not all of our contacts are in agreement on the date. Some have suggested that November 12 could, instead, by Wii’s launch date. Regardless, though, it seems that Wii fans can look forward to their console sooner rather than later. Sources suggest that Wii will launch with a $229 price tag and will be available in both black and white.

Nintendo has allegedly bumped production of Wii hardware to more than five million units by the end of the year (originally was four million)…The console is unlikely to be region-free, although the lock is unrelated to hardware; a firmware update could theoretically allow gamers to play import software.

Sony is excellent at promoting its game consoles. Sometimes too good, that it pushes out too much information and half the information that Sony spills out can be taken with a grain of salt, especially about network gameplay (the PS2 was suppose to be fully online by iuts second year) and the graphics (when PS2 graphics first were displayer they looked better than the Xbox 360). However, it does bring hype and something to look forward to....

Nintendo should start doing this more instead of being so hush, hush....and causing people to have to dissect pictures just to find out that there is some stupid flap for GC memory cards on the lower side......and thats big news for us, Nintendo onlookers. I say......retarded!?!!

Woah buddy, I'm just posting this from kotaku and thought it would be very interesting to the rest of you because it does contradict what they said. That's why it's bigger news than if it were just an announcement of 7-Eleven having a contest.

Watch your tone.
