Title: Virtual Console's Secrets Reveiled
Post by: iimawii™ on November 04, 2006, 01:11:30 PM
We have Nintendo answering our most common questions of the Wii's Virtual Console.

Q:Can games be stored on SD cards?
A:Yes, they can be downloaded to either the Wii's interal 512MB memory, or to a SD card. Say for example you only use the 512MB and use up all the memory, however you want to download another game. Don't worry because your Wii will store your download history so if you delete a game, you can re-download it at a later time!

Q:Can you take your VC games via SD card to a friends house?
A: No, they are locked to your Wii. If your Wii breaks, we (Nintendo) will help you recover your games.

Q:Which controllers will be used for the Virtual Console?
A:All games will be playable with the Gamecube controller or the Classic controller. The Wiimote can be turned on its side to play NES games.

Q:What about for the people who can't jump into a game and play, they need to know the controls first?
A: Each VC game will be bundled with a digital instruction manual.

The European VC will only be available to European Wiis. So if you import a US Wii, you will have to connect to the US service AND use US Wii point cards. So it seems if you import your Wii and do like above your warranty will be void, so that should be a no no.

Nintendo is doing a wonderful job so far. The only big neusance is the Wii is region-locked, which is a first for Nintendo consoles. From what I'm hearing its the biggest complaint about the Wii. And it seems that its even hinted at towards the end of the article, talking about US Wii and US service and US Wii points....

I have no problem with it being region-locked. Although, playing 'imported' games is always a blast. Some of the games that don't make it to the states are just wonderful and shouldn't be missed out on. So its kinda sad. Yeah well, as they say, "Crap happens."

I don't care for the VC, but I do like reading manuals before I play a game. So its glad to hear that they'll be packing digital manuals with the games and really just providing a full and good service to the VC. Bravo to Nintendo.

Yeah it will really suck since I'll have a US Wii, and I do enjoy playing JPN games that never make it over here. My huge wish is for Ninty to have, a long way down the road, come up with a updated firmware that unlocks the region, but of course it won't come true. I guess my best bet will be waiting to dump JPN games and play them off the SD card

Actually, the GC was region-locked so to say. You had to use a separate disc to have it load a game that is from a different region.

Anyway, I don't really mind the whole fiasco about the Region-lock of the Wii. Though it really makes no sense to do so. The DS was region free and it ended up perfectly fine. Meh, I can live without importing a Japanese game or something of that sort.

It seems like it would be too easy to hack the VC if you can store games on your SD. You could probably upload Roms and stuff.
