Title: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: stryder2000 on November 10, 2006, 05:03:20 PM I am a gamer and a father (5 kids, lets not go there). I like my games and like to let them play once in awhile too. Though I have never owned a Nintendo system, besides the Gameboy Advanced and DS, I am pretty set on the Wii this time around. The price, the cool Wii-remote and, as I see it, Nintendo's idea of making games fun for everyone are all reasons I am going with the Wii.
Nintendo has a good balance between games for hard-core gamer and games for the less hard core. I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts were one the subject. Is the Wii the best next console to get? Thanks, rob Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: blizzy1000 on November 10, 2006, 05:22:14 PM The Wii is definitely the best console, especially if children will be playing it. There are so many games that are good for kids (Elebits, Rayman, Barnyard) and so many games that are good for older players (Red Steel, Zelda, Super Smash). The Wii is way different from the PS3 and the Xbox 360 in many ways. PS3 and Xbox 360 are overpriced, if not overpriced, too much money unless you're a hard core fan. The PS3 and Xbox 360 focus more on graphics, not fun. PS3 and Xbox 360 sell more games for adults than for family's or kids (Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto, True Crime)
Anyway, if you plan to have fun, I'd say the Wii is the way to go. :-D Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: MysticGohan on November 10, 2006, 06:40:54 PM wii by far
PS3 & xbox360 are manly going to have shooter and teen games Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Devvv on November 12, 2006, 01:20:37 AM Yup. Nintendo consoles and the handhelds have always been kid-friendly so getting a Wii is probably the best choice for your family.
Besides, has anyone here seen that creepy commercial for the PS3? I'm talking about the creepy doll.. It's clear that they are not targeting little kids with that ad! Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Trevelyan on November 12, 2006, 06:30:00 AM There are benefits that each console can give to a wide range of people, though it's easy to see that the postives far out weight the negatives in regards to the Wii.
Attributes: Firstly, you have 5 kids, you're probably tight on space? Unless you have a huge house and each kid has like 3 rooms and a bathroom each (You're very lucky and so are you kids if this is true :-P) But, the system is minute next to the PS3/360 (Check the Wii-vo frontpage for a pic comparison) so you can slip it away down the side of the T.V or out of the way. Price: It's the cheapest by far, and not only a cheaper console but cheaper games, like £10/dollar comparison at times, as is with the DS, games with less of a content will cost less, so you're not paying X amount for a game for the kids as you would be with a game like Zelda. So if the kids want Happy Feet or another kiddy game of the like, its going to cost you less as well. Fun for everyone: You and the kids should have unlimited fun, when there go to bed you can play some of the games you want, more hardcore gamer stuff, Zelda, Red Steel, Call of Duty 3, Excite Truck (if you live in america) and the kids can play Wii Sports (which you'll get free with the console). Easy Internet access/Wii channels: Nintendo wanted to create an internet service/interface that everyone could sit around and use at the same time, keeping you round the tv rather than a PC screen. You can check the weather before you go out for the day, check news headlines and maybe even access the internet and book a holiday with the kids, its really what you make of it. Even the Mii channel will keep you and the kids busy, can create them all and use them in games, so each of your kids has a character of themselves. Virtual Console/Backwards compatibility: You say that you've never owned a Nintendo console apart from a GBA and a DS, well you can download games from the Virtual Console from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Megadrive/Genesis and others, which means you can check out Nintendo (and Sega's) past histroy of games. If your kids or yourself want a new game but don't wanna spend X amount, then you could download an old game for a cheap price to keep you tied over in the slow times that the console world can sometimes suffer from. Other stuff: Wireless controllers, no wires to trip over (though all 3 consoles now implement this) It's quiet, no massive fan inside to drown out talking in the room Innovation, playing games will feel new again Easy to use, no hard-drives, easy to set up Minimal loading times, turn on the Wii, 2 seconds, Choose a Wii game, loads up in 3 seconds, so you're not waiting around with sometimes impatient children. Hope this helps, anything else, let me know. :-) Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Ziren335 on November 12, 2006, 08:17:18 AM Wii!! I think it is really going to revolutionize the industry. It will really change the way people play and bring people together, especially the party games like Super Monkey Ball & Wii Sports. Great for a family.

Anyway, good choice on getting a Wii rob. You'll definitely be impressed by it. Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: chaosking91 on November 21, 2006, 11:15:51 AM yea the wii is nintendo in general has more games for all ages versus sony and microsoft
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Zeta on November 21, 2006, 07:12:31 PM Wii = great software and controller
PS3 = Great hardware, i.e. graphics thats the overall feel im getting on the subject, but what do i know =P The PS3, in my opinon will pale in comparison to the Wii =) Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Ft24 on November 23, 2006, 03:30:29 PM I say definatly the wii is the best nex-gen console. In my opion the 360 and PS3 have alrealdy failed in proving there selves, not to say that they wont get better over time, but for now the have failed in putting their hardware to work. But as for the wii, it has really impressed me with the game play. Its very kid friendly, and adults will enjoy it too. Sony and Microsoft aimed there goals to better proccesors, higher memory etc, but lack gameplay. I Pretty sure in a few months or so the PS3 will show its true potentail but for now the Wii is the Best
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Vander on November 24, 2006, 09:55:56 AM All true exept that the PS3 can not show any more potential. It has not many good games, whimpy controller, bigger than a bus window, and the only good thing about it is it's graphics.
nuf said Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 24, 2006, 11:57:45 AM but isnt the PS3 part computer? that why they kept working on it. its the Xbox that increased its graphics. at least the xbox controllers shrunk for better fitting!
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: MysticGohan on November 24, 2006, 07:30:11 PM but isnt the PS3 part computer? that why they kept working on it. its the Xbox that increased its graphics. at least the xbox controllers shrunk for better fitting! i still think that the ps3 is better then x-box360 has way better graphicsTitle: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 24, 2006, 08:39:15 PM yeah it does the only reason the xbox is being bought is for halo 3
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: KierreX9 on November 24, 2006, 09:41:25 PM Wii is the best by a long shot. Like the others said, it is family friendly and as a variety of games for both hardcore and young gamers, for families and for parties and etc.
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 24, 2006, 11:25:14 PM it seems like a shame that the xbox 360 doesnt have as many qualities that are new as the PS3 and Wii do. oh well, Halo 3 should be a great game though!
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: korey07 on November 24, 2006, 11:45:19 PM yes the ps3 is way better then the 360... the ps3 is a beast!!!! hahaha
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 25, 2006, 01:02:47 PM but its do dang expensive!! 600 bucks for PS3 compared to 250 for the Wii is waaaaaaaaaay too much!
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: korey07 on November 25, 2006, 01:12:20 PM well the price is a little high but we haven't really seen what the ps3 can do....!! just wait till theres a game that can really use the ps3 to the fullest...!!
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 25, 2006, 01:13:57 PM well I saw a test video of the PS3 it showed Tiger Woods and when they compared it to a real pic of him, there was no difference. might as well say the PS3 uses TV graphics!
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Trevelyan on November 25, 2006, 02:43:33 PM The 360 and PS3 are apparently not much different than one another, dispute the two being a year apart in terms of release. Both have components and aspects that are better than one another, so one is better in on department and the other is betting in another department. Although, it has been mentioned that the 360 is easier to develop games for.
'The PS3 uses T.V graphics'....lmao that's genius! Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 25, 2006, 09:20:26 PM well, it does! yeah the Xbox is computer, but the PS3 uses things like laser scanning and such they take a while to design they have good graphics
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: stryder2000 on November 25, 2006, 11:59:34 PM Update: The Wii is on the Xmas list. The wife is not happy because she doesn't think she will be able to find one before Christmas. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get it now, I would be happy to take them.
On the current topic of Wii vs. PS3 vs. XBox360 -- My opinion is that in a year or so we will see that the PS3 will out class the XBox, hands down, in both graphics and performance. The amount of processing power in that machine is ridiculous. Once the game developers figure out how to harness all those processors, we will see some truly amazing games. The XBox will be left in the dust. Still I think the Wii will be a success on its own. We will see better graphics and continue to have the fun games as time goes by. There are already rumors of an HD capable Wii running around--too cool! I still think the Wii is the one for me and mine for the future! Thanks again for all the responses. rob Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 26, 2006, 12:45:34 AM how to get the wii- call your local store and ask when they are restocking. then wait in line. or create your own. or you can get a wii on unsafe sites to get a broken wii with a virus!
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: kenshin05 on November 26, 2006, 05:45:12 AM I Think the Wii is better because most of the games are rated E for Everyone. A lot of the games on the Wii are games I played are since I was young myself.
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 26, 2006, 01:06:55 PM yeah, a lot of games on PS3 and Xbox360 are rated M for Mature. nothing wrong with playing them, but it means kids can't buy them. And I haven't seen many Ms on Nintendo, their all rated T for teen, enough for kids to get by themselves.
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Vander on November 27, 2006, 11:38:54 AM A good reason to get a Wii insted of those other consoles, is that there are games for everyone. There's Wii Sports that everyone can enjoy, kids and adaults. And The games are easy to play. Then there's Red Steel for the Teens and adaults. It's hardcore gaming, easy to learn, and gives all the teens and adaults want in gaming. Overall the Xbox 360 and PS3 are based on graphics and M rated games. The Wii is based on great games and easy gameplay. Eat that Sony and MS!
Nuf said Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: Xigger on November 27, 2006, 07:16:59 PM funwise, all 3 are great. but nintendo doesnt go all M-rated so kids of all ages can play any game, unlike PS or Xbox.
Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: korey07 on November 29, 2006, 06:48:28 PM i can even think of one M rated game for the wii... but i can name off lots of them for both ps, and xbox...

You set a 4 digit PIN and set the max rating to E or T. then when you want to play your M or AO games, just punch in the pin, and it'll let you play those, and the next time it restarts, it's secure again!

Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: spartan084 on December 02, 2006, 11:43:51 PM The PS3 and Xbox 360 focus more on graphics, not fun. I was with u all the way up to this part. being a 360 owner myself, i think that this is a gross oversimplification, not to mention an incorrwct one. i dont even own an HD tv, and if what ure saying is correct, then how could I enjoy it? the consoles are made for different purposes. the simple breakdown, as ive heard many times is:PS3: for tech nerds Xbox 360: for the casual to avid gamer Wii: for someone wanting to just waste some time to the casual gamer Of course, there is overlap, but if you want to buy a console for you and youre kid to enjoy, then go with the Wii. the 360 isnt the best idea if youre into the gory stuff, but there are still some good family games out there for it (albeit not many). So id definitely suggest the Wii Title: Re: Which console will be better for younger kids? Post by: hazerds on December 02, 2006, 11:49:50 PM of course wii is most adept for them
