Wii-volution

Okay, I am here, in front of my PC Monitor, trying to stay calm when all of you are in front of your TVs playing with your Wiis.

Among all my thoughts, I think I 'll face a problem when I get my Wii: Wi Fi. I have no idea about networks (except from how to connect to the Internet! :P). So I am in big need of your help. I know that I have to set up a Wi Fi Connection if I want to use Wii's online capabilities. What do I need to buy? What do I need to do? Please help... ;) Oh, almost forgot: I have an aDSL connection on my PC, I think it's essential. (Downloading is 768kilobits per second, uploading is 128kilobits per second).

If you plan on getting a laptop or other wireless device as well then you need to buy a wireless router. If not you can get off a little cheaper by buying a wireless USB adapter. Both are fairly easy to setup up anymre , most routers come with a easy start setup disc that tell yous what to do.

You need a USB connecter or a router. then go to any channel that doesn't have a picture, then hit internet, then do wireless or wired connection. Then for router, do access point, and for USB, do serch for USB. Then you must enter the code. Mine's not working for some reason :?

What about distance? My PC is on my room while my Wii will be on the living room and there is a distance of around 10-20 meters... In addition, does the DS Wi Fi work the same way?

Does the nintendo wi-fi usb stick work with the wii?

I also have a none nintendo one.....

any USB WiFi "stick" should work just fine, it doesnt have to be nintendo.  they are alll the same just nintendo puts a sticker on it and ups the price $20. And as for distance, Im not too versed on the USB adapter types, but any router shouldnt have to much trouble broadcasting most anywhere in your house. As long as your house isnt extra big or have alot of crazy thick walls in the way. Basically anything a room or two away should be ideal location.

Try Wifi-Max its really simple and is great for if you just want a wifi signal.

oh yea definitly distance is not a big factor, sometimes if u search for networks u can see ur neighbor's networks (obviously its illegal to connect) but jus to show u distance is not a factor

Distance is not a factor.  I've got a computer upstairs, my router downstairs by the tv, and my laptop works anywhere in (or outside - I don't have a very big yard) my house. 

**If you are getting a router I'd definitely follow the instructions to at least set up the basic security feature and make it a secured connection.  This will HELP keep neighbors and anyone driving by (and this does happen) from connecting to your network and possibly gaining access to your computers.  You are required to login to the router through a computer, but the manual in the router should have all the instructions.  They're fairly cheap now, especially with rebates.  Definitely get the "g" and not the 802.11b.  Speed is the main difference.

if your wifi usb connector does not work do the following:
check to see if ur firewall setting are set down
Uninstall the nintnedo wifi usb adapter then shut down the computer
put the disk in the computer and reinstall it
hit accept connection on the wifi registration tool
and it should work
i have to follow all those procedures but it worked and now i havnt had any problems with it yet...

Another problem:

A network is set up but I cannot connect to the internet, it looks like I have problems with the DNS settings and the key ports. Any ideas about what may be wrong and what can I do?

Then you go to your Wii and setup a wireless connection, it will search and hopefully find the access point and you are done ?
