Title: Nintendo Domains
Post by: JoNoH on May 25, 2006, 10:54:54 PM
Wii Gamin' has a pretty neat listing of some Nintendo registered domains dealing with the Wii.  It kindof makes you wonder...

Not to be a prick or anything...but that's kindof the point.  A company registers a domain and points it to itself until a time in which that domain is useful.  This principle holds for ALOT of companies.  There are quite a few GOOGLEdomains that are like this as well.

Oh, oops... didn't really process the domains part :P , I thought they were different Wii sites, so I was wondering why they all linked back to Nintendo.

You got way too much time on your hands.

Thanks for the links though. I'll page through them over a series of weeks.

I didn't exactly find them myself.... Most blogs are just rehashes of other sites.  I also included a reference.

A lot of those are completely irrevelant... wiidiary.com? wiicountry.com? wiibeauty? wiimoney? wiimap? what do those have to do with the Wii? Shouldn't Nintendo make it more relevant, instead of placing random words after "wii" and making it a domain?

Agreed. And what about the lame site (that follows the same style as noted above) known as wii-volution.com?

Title: Re: Nintendo Domains
Post by: Disaster on June 06, 2006, 03:58:40 PM
I think Wii-volution is really relevant to the Wii... since before the console was announced to be named the "Wii," it was codenamed as Revolution, so it's kind of like best of both worlds, since some people prefer either one or the other. But can you honestly say something like "wiidiary" is relevant at all to the Wii? What does a diary have to do with the Wii at all? As of right now, I'm not aware of any "diary" type features on the Wii, so...

I like wiibreeding.com =P... kind of suggestive. What if you buy two Wii's and then put them together, and then the next day there are 5 baby Wii's bouncing around. Haha, that'd save money, give a Wii out for everyone. THEN MAYBE THERE COULD BE A WII FARM.

A Wii farm?  Interesting... Watch Microsoft and Sony try to beat that :P.

That would be so interesting... maybe they would start breeding too... I know Sony probably would 'cause Sony follows Nintendo, hahaha what if there are hybrid baby PSWii's. That would be so interesting... it'd be like... the wiimote, Blu-Ray disc, WiiConnect24, a bunch of power... etc. [/end imaginative rant]

I like the name too. I just thought it was funny how the name fit into the argument about how dumb Nintendo and supporters are for naming sites wii-whatever....and that the stereotype fit perfectly for this site.

The Wii-whatever naming convention isn't anything new.  Remember back with the SNES every other game started with Super?  Or how about the N64 and how 2 in 3 games ended in 64 (Bomberman 64, Mario 64, etc etc).  I'm not sure if this naming convention will work with the Wii though...

Wii Mario
Wii Bomberman
Wii Castlevania

It just sounds like a bunch of really small games.  8O

Good point. Forgot about Nintendo's dumb wave of retarded names.

I don't know... they didn't do it with the GameCube, so that could be a sign that they stopped that... like, it's not "Mario Sunshine GameCube" besides, the names like Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64 kind of complemented their console... I guess we'll just wait and see...

Post by: Puff Daddy on June 07, 2006, 10:53:02 PM
Yeah...

I guess. I mean, at least it hasn't started yet anyways. None of the games that we know of, have anything "wii" in the title. Just as long as the games are solid, and have hours of replay then I'll be happy. If not, I'm going to be one broke college student looking for the blood of all who had part of the Wii's game developement.

But it doesn't fit into the stereotype, because the site's name is a mix of the console's actual name (Wii) and its codename (Revolution). What I was talking about was how Nintendo put random words after "wii" for their domains. For example, wiibreeding? Sounds pretty irrelevant to me... At least wii-volution has a purpose.

Okay. I'm wrong. Like I haven't gotten that before. Practically every night, my girlfriend goes off on me about how much I suck. And everytime she keeps hammering on about random things that I never knew I said or did, I always ponder if it would be alright if I just choked her. Not real hard, but hard enough to get my point across. Point being, her shutting up and letting me play my friggin' PS2. Look it, I don't care if she is at my house. She's practically there 24/7...so is it wrong, that I come home from my crappy job tired? Why can I not sit down, pick up the PS2 controller, play for an hour or two, eat oreos, peanut butter, and milk, then go to sleep? I don't want to deal with the lecture. Just one good choking is all she needs. But then she'll complain about that too....in which case I will take the cloroform out and just sedate her for the better.

Rock on Wiibreeding!

And I still say wii-volution fits the bill. But I got your point with Nintendo thowing words about. I can't wait for wiiarebarely18.com to be up and running. Afterall, the internet was meant for porn....why am I on this site again?

Anyways, thanks for listening to my slight rant on my girlfriend. I could dig a grave for her in words, but I don't want to burden everyone here with a strong shot of disturbing right away. You all have been a great audience. Wii on!

Rofl that made me both chuckle at your satire, and feel deeply sad for you and your girlfriend situation

Hey I always say a woman needs a good choking from time to time to put her in her place! As long as she is being a bizach hehe.

I have a feeling this threads going to need to be locked soon!

Nah. It's all good. Back to talking about the wii domain names...

I never actually got to visiting those sites, seeing as this site tends to proved enough information to me -- at times over stimulating me, and causing me to run around the house, telling everyone that I'm getting a Nintendo Wii and everything else can burn in H-E-Double hockey sticks. Anyways, I'm going to take a look at them now and see what the big hub-bub is about. I'lll be back to report the findings that most likely, everyone else has already known way before me.

PS: I am such an idiot at times. Normally, when I come onto the wii-volution site, I am autologged in. Guess I wasn't this time...so the post above was me. My bad.

I don't know if I should post this way yet but having read only 10 topics I find your wii-company great and I feel like a part of it. Forgive me if I say some words I shouldn't...

These 2 lines were an apology for something bad I haven't done. Let me do it now! :)

Firstly, I wonder what will happen if NewToTheArmy's girlfriend comes here and reads his rants about her... I wouldn't like to be neither her nor NewToTheArmy! :P

Secondly, I think I read it somewhere on this site that registering "strange" domains with a name is a way to "protect" your products. I mean, look, this "wii" word is becoming a life-style. What about if Sony bought the wiisports domain?

Thirdly, Disaster's idea about baby Wiis would be a Horror Film's main idea: Nintendo, a giant in the gaming industry, creates a console that first looks like a revolution in the games world but later on it turns out to be a nightmare because wii are becoming more and more and they attack their owners and then Shigeru Miyamoto his Nintendo Crew take over the world with Wiis being their army. (Isn't that brilliant? I think I am gonna buy the copyrights! :P)

(Sorry for the off-topic 1st and 3rd points)
