Title: Virtual Console on the DS?
Post by: Sharkspark on June 21, 2006, 04:37:04 PM
What are the chances of Nintendo expanding their VC idea to the DS? It would be freaking sweet to have an SNES emulated on the go.  I mean, there is going to be some connectivity between the DS and Wii, right? Or did I just make that up out of overly-hopeful optimism?

You might be able to send games from the Wii to the DS. Nintendo's said that there is a possibility that they could use the Wii as a download station for demo games and stuff for the DS, so I would assume they could do the same with the VC games.

maybe as a controller too :-)

As a controller i believe its been confirmed, FF:CC:TCB anyone?

Also there have been rumors of DS demos and everything. I dont have a DS, but does it have any memory that could store such files?

No, as soon as you power off the system you lose the demo.

ooo so it kinda be like the GBA and animal crossing, you can take it with you, theres standby mode, but power off says bye bye

Yeah, exactly like that. But sleep mode is much easier with the DS so you could keep it for awhile if you really liked it.

I didn't know for sure that FF:CC was going to use a DS as a controller option, but had been hoping and expecting as such. I'm glad. Plus, I've read on Digg that there's an internet browsing card that's soon coming out for the DS... it didn't specify the region, but I'm sure it's Japan.

Yeah, Opera on the DS and apparently it'll be on the Wii. FFCC has a lot potential, I just hope they put in a good single player experience into this one.

Yea, on the Cube one, I never actually got around to beating it... started having party sessions with friends, and spending hours upon hours maxing out my character, but I never freaking beat the boss... just never felt like I had to, I guess.

i had the special chalice stuff but i never bothered to beat it, it jsut went downhill only palying with myself or arguing with my brother about whos carrying, MP definetly needs a Mog, and Chocobos :D :D :D !!!!!

I concur, but back to the topic at hand. If they did put a virtual console on the DS, do you think maybe they'd make a hard drive that'd fit in the GBA slot? or as some other add in? Solid-state memory is making leaps and bounds now, so I'm sure that if they wanted to, they could most definitely do something to give the DS more permanent memory storage, although it does cope with simply flash memory just fine anyway.

thats a nice idea, in fact that could work very well.

your a smart one, you are.

I doubt they'd do it. I don't know if it would be cost effective enough to do so. The VC on the Wii will be enough for most people.

it could lead to 3rd party indepentdent devs on the wii, making ds games :D although thats also a good point, cost.

You're probably right. I mean, the homebrew scene has converters for flash stuff and what not, but history's proven that generally, if it's going to be upgraded at all, it'll be a new system... except for the Expansion thing on 64 and the disc reader and some other stuff. But I'm pretty sure they planned the release of all that from the beginning anyways. *sigh* No 20GB DSes... they would so rape iPods... and PSPs... oh wait, DS already stomps the PSP!

Aren't you aware of Flash Cards people? They give us the option to save some things on these...

Anyway, I don't think a handheld console is the best way to play old games. Plus there are lots of emulators out already...

I <3 emulators haha

But just imagine it, Chrono Trigger anywhere!

lol, not a big fan of chrono trigger, or was it chrono cross? ah idk

im fine without vc ds anyway

Chrono Trigger was the SNES one, the better one. Chrono Chross was on PSX, and I didn't like it as much. But if I could get a hold of Chrono Trigger for DS or something along those lines, I would sell my soul.

Quite a few SNES games were ported to the GBA anyway, and some games are being ported onto the DS. Perhaps the Wii should only have the VC, and DS owners could stick with straight ports? Ports are the way of the future, after all.

Nintendo would probably make more money off doing ports for the DS plus making them available on the VC. So I assume that's what they would do.

What are ports?

What are ports? (Silly person :P)

A port is a game that has been rereleased onto a different system, such as the Super Mario and Donkey Kong Country games for the GBA.

Yeah, that's what a port is. People call them ports because it's essential the same game they are just "porting" it to another system, or not really changing anything or making anything better. All the Classic NES series games for the GBA are ports.

Yep, exactly what I said. :P

Now that I think of it, though, it would probably be better(and cheaper) to just download the games onto the DS than spending an extra 20 quid or something to go out and buy the same game. With the exception of Final Fantasy III of course. :P
