Title: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: Puff Daddy on June 25, 2006, 09:45:37 PM
I never owned a Gamecube. Wii has playback capability. So what games on the GC are worth playing?

I have quite a lot for a system that many believe doesn't have a many good games. I'd definitely get Metroid Prime (and if you like it Metroid Prime 2), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Mario Kart Double Dash, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and if you don't plan on getting the DS version Animal Crossing.

Super Smash Bros Melee, Geist, and Metroid Prime are the best imo. WW and Sunshine are alright, Soul Caliber 2 and Animal Crossing are fun.

Skies of Arcadia and Tales of Symphonia, if you like RPGs, not to mention Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. Plus... in a few months, Super Paper Mario.

Ikaruga, Super Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX, 1080 Avalanche, Rogue Squadron Leader, Eternal Darkness & last but not least, can't believe no-one else has suggested it RE4!

Nice contribution! Overlord you should register :-)

Oh man, I can't believe I forgot Resident Evil 4. Yeah that's one you should definitely get. It could easily be the best game on the system.

Get Animal Crossing for the Gamecube, as you can play quite a good selection of NES games on that version. I also suggest that you get all of the above(that the other members mentioned), ESPECIALLY Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. You will have a few good laughs with that game as well(I assure you). :D

Both Pikmin and Wario Ware are also worth a look(get a few friends around for Wario Ware).

Thanks for the suggestions!

Doesn't anyone care for Mario Baseball or Mario Tennis?

I've heard Mario Tennis is pretty fun. I haven't heard anything about Mario Baseball. Personally I really like Mario Golf.

Yeah, Mario Power Tennis pretty good. Although, if your looking for all the triple A titles then I suggest that you get some of the previously mentioned games first.

Yeah, they are good for multiplayer though. But in my opinion the best Mario sports multiplayer game is Super Mario Strikers. Even if you don't like soccer or don't like to watch it, you'll love this game.

Does anyone know if Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance or Battalion Wars is worth buying(I know they got good reviews). I will probably definetely get Fire Emblem anyway... and Battalion Wars.

In fact, scrap that question! Which of the two should I get first?

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: MetroidHunter on June 28, 2006, 11:58:16 AM
I have Fire Emblem Path of Radiance. I absolutely love strategy games and I own Fire Emblem Sacred Stones for GBA and loved it, so I figured I would get the game, but once I did I didn't really like it. To me it's not nearly as fun, and sometimes I'd even get a headache from playing. And of course with the graphics being 5 times better the story is 5 times longer. I don't know if I would suggest it or not. I would definitely rent first.

As for Battalion Wars that was a game I always planned on getting but never did, I really don't know anything about it.

I own both Fire Emblems for the Gameboy Advance(haven't beaten Sacred Stones yet) and I love both of them- I prefer the first GBA game(which is technically the 7th Fire Emblem, don't remember the proper name for it- but I don't really care), mostly for it's plot(don't ask why) and characters. Like you, I love strategy games(though, not being great at them).  For those reasons, I am definetely going to get it. All I want to know is which I should get first...  :?

Well since I don't know much about Battalion Wars I can't choose one to get over the other. What I do know is that Battalion Wars isn't turn based strategy game, or a typical strategy game. It's a blend of RTS, Turn Based, and an action game. But Path of Radiance is 100% Grade A turn based strategy. It's just like the GameBoy Advance games. So I guess if that's what you are looking for just go with it.

I'm not really too picky as to what type of strategy game it is, to be honest. I'm just looking for a good strategy game for the Gamecube, that will keep me interested and that I don't just run around mindlessly hack-and-slashing in(that's what Kingdom Hearts 2- which hasn't been released in the UK yet- and Twilight Princess will be for).

Aw yes...

I forgot about Battalion Wars and Fire Emblem. So the Fire Emblem for GC isn't like the one for Advance, is it still tactical strategy....with the grid, and everything else like the Gameboy, just longer?

Oh... Baten Kaitos, and its sequel that's coming out! And I can't believe I forgot RE4... so good... I played nonstop for about a month... like 8 times through... and had a competition with my friend over who could get through it first... I won... I beat it before he got to the part where you have two paths, one with an El Gigante and one with some ganados and chainsaw twins... oh man... I'm going to play that now...

No Puff Daddy it's exactly like the GBA versions, with the grid and all. It just has better graphics and a much longer story. But to me surprisingly it wasn't as fun. Battalion Wars is the one that isn't like the GBA version. It's a blend of RTS, Turn based, and an action games.

Does anyone know if the Pikmin games are any fun? I know I can get them for cheap now and I like strategy games. I don't know why I've never gotten them.

pikmin is very entertaining for prolly 8 hours straight, then ya need a break. it was worth it at $50 when i got it and its worth teh $15-$20 you can buy it at now, deffinetly get 1, not sure if 2 adds anything speical though

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: MetroidHunter on June 29, 2006, 01:15:17 AM
Actually I can get Pikmin at EB Games for like $10 and Pikmin 2 for $20. 2 has the multiplayer and the new Pikmin and for $30 dollars I figured why not but I didn't know if they were any good or not so I thought I would ask.

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: spawn on June 29, 2006, 01:57:27 AM
$30 for both is a good deal :D

Yeah man, go for it! I was pleasantly surprised when I first played Pikmin, myself. I prefer the music in the original Pikmin.

Post by: MetroidHunter on June 30, 2006, 12:05:17 AM
Yeah, I got them both today for $30. I've played through 10 days of Pikmin and I really, really like it. I just hope I can get all the parts in time. It's been a lot of fun so far.

You get quite a strange ending if you fail to collect every last ship part in the time you have on the planet. :?

I won't spoil it for you, though. :P

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: MetroidHunter on June 30, 2006, 09:13:53 PM
Thanks, I've had several endings spoiled for me before. So I really appreciate it.

PD I was looking through my games today and another I might try is Viewtiful Joe. It's pretty cheap as it launched at like $30 or $40 and it's a 2.5D beat-em up game. I thought it was pretty fun and for the price it's a good game.

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: Marink on July 01, 2006, 02:16:23 AM
Yeah, I know what you mean. It's like the world feels obligated to spoil whatever it can for people, in any way necessary. I knew about that whole Aeris incident months before I even got Final Fantasy VII. :x

Anywhooo, Viewtiful Joe is alright. Also, might I add Donkey Konga if you want a good multiplayer(if you ever get tired of Wario Ware, that is).

I've never boughten DK Jungle Beat, but I've heard it's pretty good. If you get the bongos with Donkey Konga you should get it as well.

What about that one game for the GC about an invading army, and you are God...and you must defend your people with a giant boulder that will roll over the enemy army. Ojami? Okami? Is that any good?

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: MetroidHunter on July 13, 2006, 11:26:51 PM
You're thinking of the pinball strategy war game thing called Odama. You were close. I've never played it but IGN gave it a 6.5 so it's probably not that great.

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: Puff Daddy on July 13, 2006, 11:39:50 PM
6.5?

Weak.

I really wanted to roll a giant ball over thousands of faceless warriors. Anyone actually go hands on with Odami? It looks cool, but it seems like it never caught on.

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: Marink on July 15, 2006, 09:55:22 AM
Not too sure about Odama, but Chibi Robo looks pretty good to me right now. That is definetley one to get this year. :D

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii
Post by: Puff Daddy on July 15, 2006, 12:47:08 PM
I know that is a popular game...I played the demo, I didn't care for it then. Maybe its better than what I played.

I know when I get the Wii, I'm going to get Super Mario Strikers. If Odami is disrt cheap, then I'll get it...should be good for a few laughs at least.

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii

Yeah, it's a really different unique game. Super Mario Strikers is a great game for multiplayer. You'll have a lot of fun with friends.

There's rumor that there will be a Super Mario Strikers sequel on the Wii....I guess I'll wait for that a bit, when I do get my Wii.

Where did you find this rumour?

Title: Re: Gamecube games for Wii

I've heard that rumor as well. That it will be one of the brand new never before seen Wii games that they show at Leipzig in Germany at their big game festival. I think I saw it on IGN or a different forum.

There will be a Super Mario Strikers sequal on the Wii, it's called
Mario Strikers: Charged. or some name like that. I found it on Wii.com and I think I saw it in my NP (Nintendo Power) I hope that it will be better than the last one, because I was dissapointed in the lack of charicters and they had no stats, it was stupid. The gameplay was awsome, the graphics looked amazing, and it had a great Multi-player. I just hope that the charicters in Charged have different stats.

I also heard that the ball is made of pure iron
