Title: Excite Truck
Post by: Marink on June 29, 2006, 03:28:57 PM
With all the talk about Excite Truck on this site, I'm surprised nobody has made a thread about it yet. So I guess I will do just that.

Firstly, I don't really know a great deal about this or any of the "Excite" games' history. What I do know, however, is that tilting the controller back and forth keeps your vehicle in time with the terrain, which changes underneath you as you drive. I am also aware that using the wiimote in a steering wheel-like fashion allows you to drive.

I am pondering about whether to get(or try to get) this game on release or not. So what do you guys think so far?

I think it's a cool game, but I doubt I'll have enough money for it. There are so many games I want but I'm not huge on racing games anyway.

I'm not too keen on driving games myself. Although, in this case, I may make an exception. The control method intruiges me. :)

Yeah, I showed my girlfriend a screenshot of the game that was in my latest GI and she loved it. Well she was more interested in it then any of the other games I had showed her for the Wii. So maybe I'll have to get that one now just so we can play something together. Or better yet she could give it to me as a gift then we can both play it. I wouldn't mind at all.

Still no answer to this topic, strange thing!

(Yeah, rightly guessed, I am back. I have a new gf and...ok...you know how the first days with new gfs are.. The real problem is that every day is like the first day... :P And the fact that she isn't aware of Nintendo!!! :D)

Well, to get back on topic, Excite Truck looks interesting but with so many other great games out by then I think I am gonna give it a lot of tries before buying it...

Yeah, I never noticed it when I double posted it. :?

Oh well, congratulations and good luck with your new girlfriend. Hopefully you will be able to get her interested in the Nintendo Wii. :D

PS. Could you delete your post in the other thread please, so I can delete mine?

Im ganna get excite truck, cause i think itll be cool. Also ganna get NFS Carbon :D. Not a big racing fan but it does feel good to leave your friends in the dust once in awhile ;)

Offtopic - i got bitched at by my gf for bringing up Macs, i wonder what will happen with Nintendo...

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: MetroidHunter on July 12, 2006, 11:42:59 AM
I read a big article on NFS Carbon and it looks like a lot of fun. It's a completely different style of racing though. I'd like to play Excite Truck before I decide entirely against it, because it could be a lot of fun. Let's hope Nintendo includes a demo/preview disc packaged in with the Wii.

I heard Excite Truck is going to play out much like Burnout, which is good news since Burnout is such a great game. However, crashing cars is only fun for a few hours, after that Burnout is placed next to your console, permanently, and left there to collect dust. Hopefully, Excite Truck can keep that spark of gameplay value alive.

Should be a good game for some time at least. I'm (most likely) going to get it.

wanna bet? get a big pink fuzzy couch, a project screen, a bunch of guys, and beer. now play the burnout 3 demo on nfsu2, thats all u need to have a goodtime, the full burnout3 just makes it more fun :D

excite truck can only be more funt hen that, PARYT AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE!

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: MetroidHunter on July 13, 2006, 10:33:57 PM
I still play Burnout from time to time. My best friend always likes to play with me. I wish they had made the sequels for the GC. But I don't think Excite Truck is really similar to Burnout because Burnout is 50% about the crazy speed and 50% about the crashes and I don't think there are going to be any crashes or crash replays in Excite Truck.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: Puff Daddy on July 13, 2006, 11:26:09 PM
Yeah...when i think about it, I don't want Excite Truck to be like Burnout....but I don't want it to be a racing simulator like FORZA or a complete arcade racer like Need For Speed. That leaves....nothing....

Great.

So I don't really know what I want Excite Truck to be like, but not exactly like Burnout. The crashes would be cool, but running over things would be just as cool as well, I hope Nintendo comes out with a unique racer that doesn't feel like Mario Kart. I hope you can unlock the original Excite Truck after beating the Wii Excite Truck, the controller with motion would fit perfect to make it feel like the actual arcade version of the original game.

Good god....I forget how to HTML, I sure could cut down that link if I rememered. Anyways....the article is something like this:

Quote
If there's one type of gaming that truly benefits from Wii's sensory-overload controller, it's the racing genre. Instead of holding the wand like a pointer, you use both hands to position it horizontally - like a steering wheel. Everyone, in theory, knows how to drive using a wheel. This makes Excite Truck all the easier to play, and its accessibility is only enhanced by its amazing simplicity.

For E3, Nintendo had two levels to try out, one tropical and another an arid desert. Regardless of which we played, it was clear that Truck was all about speed. The only buttons you use are the two on the wand's surface... and they're gas and brake. While in the air (and you will catch some serious air), you can rotate the wand to re-level the truck for a solid landing, giving you a fiery speed boost that rockets you ahead of the pack. And that's it. Jam down the gas and go.

So, yes, it's fast and it's fun. That's the most important part. But Excite Truck is pretty damn ugly. There's still plenty of time to clean things up, and for what it's worth, it does look like a modern-day GameCube title. But there were pretty scarce visual effects - in what we played, the trucks didn't even seem to phase the dirt tracks they were driving on. It looked like they were floating and sliding across the terrain instead of digging in.

But again, this still felt early. There's no solid release date, but given its name (a reference to the NES classic Excitebike, which was a launch title), there's a pretty fair chance we'll see more joyous trucking soon.ii: The most excitable trucks you'll ever see

Gameplay good, graphics piss poor. Hopefully they can buff up the graphics (as expected) and make this game a modern day classic.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: MetroidHunter on July 26, 2006, 06:42:19 PM
I'm surprised they said the graphics were bad, from the videos and screenshots I thought it looked really good.

It's funny how before E3 and before there was more info on the wiimote. I was so worried about how they could ever do a racing game. I didn't think they could do it, but boy was I wrong.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: Marink on July 27, 2006, 09:20:16 AM
Who cares about graphics when the game is fun? Excite Truck looks like it has a lot of potential, so I hope it won't let us all down. After all, it does have "Excite" in the name. :D

Sorry to double post, but remember when you guys said you never saw the steering wheel add-on? Well, here it is(for those of you that missed it):

Yes, it may not turn out to real(it isn't hard to do, though), but at least you all got to see it for yourself.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: MetroidHunter on July 31, 2006, 10:21:37 AM
Woah, that thing is weird. I think I've seen one before where the controller like fits into a slot inside the middle of the steering wheel. I think the controller by itself will be just fine though.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: Marink on July 31, 2006, 12:24:43 PM
The wiimote itself looks like it will be much better to me, but I just thought I would post that for those of you that said they have never seen it before(and to prove that I was right :P).

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: dezine on July 31, 2006, 12:36:40 PM
I'm sure we'll end up with a good amount of attachments for the wiimote. That plus I'm sure there will be the creative making their own.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: MetroidHunter on July 31, 2006, 02:42:38 PM
Yeah, I just hope there aren't too many attachments. I don't want to be forced to buy an attachment for just about every game I buy. Hopefully they'll be cheap too.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: dezine on July 31, 2006, 03:29:13 PM
Would be cool if special types of games came with the attachment.

then again I don't know if that will happen

Why not? Donkey Konga did. And I'm pretty sure Guitar Hero does... :?

Although they aren't really "attachments"...

Oh nevermnd...

Title: Re: Excite Truck

They are more like controllers, but you could call them attachments.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: Marink on August 24, 2006, 03:42:33 PM
Well, an even better word for them is "peripherals". Although, everyone else is saying "attachments", so I did too.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: raving rabid on August 24, 2006, 07:25:00 PM
I got guitar heroes for my birthday . that was really sweet jammin with hard hard rock . some games need them  guitar heroes would be gay if you only played with the ps2 controller.

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: MetroidHunter on August 25, 2006, 10:19:38 PM
Yeah peripherals, I forgot about that. But I mean you do plug them into the controller slot and use them as a controller, it's either one.

This game doesn't actually look that bad. I've been ignoring it for a long time because racing games don't get   me that excited...but maybe excite truck will.....excite me!

That was one reason why I wanted the Wii (besides it being awesome), was to have games he could play. He so far loves Baseball on Wii Sports and now loves Excite Truck even more... He does pretty good, but he has more fun when he is crashing. :) But as long as its fun. I just gotta get a second controller set (all sold out here) so we can play Baseball and Excite Truck together.

No, i've never owned any Playstations. In fact I've never even played a PS2 before. I went from Nintendo NES, SNES, N64 to DreamCast then Xbox, now Wii. I was a hardcore gamer before (I own tons of PC games and was all about Xbox and XboxLive) but now I have two kids and work all the time, I just can't afford the money or time to support a system like the PS3 and Xbox 360. I am currently a web/graphic designer/programmer and a sysadmin for 2 local businesses, so i'm on call all the time, leaving all hours of the day when networks go down, so its nice to be able to game with my Son or sit down for a little quality time with Zelda and not worry about being online, finding games, etc... I used to spend about 15 hours a day on XboxLive, but just can't do that now...

I like having a system to enjoy with my son, as thats what I remember most about my childhood is playing NES, SNES and of course the N64 (which we still play)... I do still game on my PC. I currently play City of Villains and City of Heroes, Counter-Strike: Source, StarWars Galaxies and Matrix Online...

hows everyone doing in the game? I beat the bronze, silver, gold, and platinum cups all with a b rating or better. I was hoping it would unlock something cool but it just told me to go back and beat them all again with an "S" rating on all the courses. that one might take awhile LOL

Title: Re: Excite Truck
Post by: twofivethreetwo on November 27, 2006, 07:42:12 PM
I was able to beat Excite with all S Grades after about 3-4 days of launch. I have all S Grades on Bronze and Silver on Super Excite, but thats as far as I've gotten so far. My son won't seem to let me play it anymore. :) Plus, I told myself I would spend more time with Zelda.

I now have S wins in all of bronze and silver cup. Working on gold as we speak.

The once you start unlocking more trucks its real easy to get S Grades on some of the first set of tracks.

Whats your favorite truck to use? Whats your favorite track?

Yeah I went back and blew through a few of the tracks with a new truck and killed them. Cant remember the name right now but its the third truck from the right on the list that I like. I've unlocked all of them except the last one that ooks like a hummer.

OK I got all the trucks and unlocked super excite mode now

I'll get Excite Truck soon and i'm sure that it will be awsome. I still don't have any extra controllers    They're sold out at every store. Toys "R" Us, Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart. everywhere.

But I'm sure Excite Truck will be a blast. I mean, Excitebike was fun.

I hear you about online mode and its a shame there is none because unlocking everything in a game will only keep your interest for so long. I enjoyed the game as well, and picked it up used for $45. And I would have to say its not quite worth $45 either.

I was bought Need For Speed Carbon from a relative and I didn't want to be rude, asking to have it returned, but I just played all the way through it really quick, and now there's nothing else to do. I really hate to just take the time to sell it on Ebay when I won't get crap for it. Then if I trade it into GameStop EB Games, I'm sure I'll get $5. I have seen the deal at GameStop where you trade in 2 Wii games, get 1 free, all I need now is another lousy Wii game that I could possibly steal from a kid leaving the store.  :-D
