Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: Puff Daddy on February 13, 2007, 12:29:09 AM I haven't played dual strike but I have played AW1 and AW2 on the GBA, and I can tell you that the beginning of story mode on those games will walk you through whats going on and as new things are introduced in story mode then it will tell you about them and inform you what you can do with them. Plus, theres always the instruction manual. So I'm sure you'll be able to find this game fun and you'll be able to play it without too many problems.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: iimawii™ on February 13, 2007, 01:29:20 AM You basically have a Head Quarters where you will be able to build an army. Anything from a ground unit, tanks, supply trucks, helicopters, etc. You then end the day, your opponent moves, then you start to move out your units from the HQ. Each unit has a different amount of squares it can move, attack range, weakness, and strength. The more buildings you capture with a ground unit the more money you get each day. You can only move a unit once per day and if you're close enough you can attack an enemy. That should cover the basics. I've been playing Daisenryaku, even though 98% is Japanese it's a much better game in my opinion.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 13, 2007, 01:56:35 AM you neednt worry, the game eases you in by giving you a few units at a time, tells you how they work, and lets you know just what you need to do play the game. the only thing im not hot about advance wars ds is that it can be very rigid in how you beat the level. usually theres no multiple ways of beating a level. that being said its still a great game but is rather difficult midway and near the end. hope you like restarting.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 13, 2007, 11:52:49 AM thx for the info guys i was think about this getting the game after i read and looked at the ign review and reader reviews they all say that is a great game..... by the way is there any real time strategy game
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 13, 2007, 01:36:57 PM ummm i dont think theres really a real time strategy game for the ds. last great rts on a console i saw was ogre battle 64. you can always wait for spore to come out for the ds even though its not really quite like that. itll still be awesome. and just to let you know there is an age of empires game on the ds but its not rts. its a turn based game. also it appears the game is very prone to crashing.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: iimawii™ on February 13, 2007, 02:36:00 PM I have Age Of Empires: Age Of Kings for the DS. It has changed into the same strategy game as Advanced Wars / Daisenryaku. Since I'm so big into AOE2, it made me enjoy the battles and understand the strengths and weaknesses of all the units. To tell you the truth I acutally prefer AOE over Advanced Wars.
1) Age Of Empires - when I want to remind me of the good ol days 1) Daisenryaku - when I want a more modern world war type of game (note: daisenryaku means world war) 3) Advanced Wars - when I want more of a story-line and less realistic looking. I'm in no way saying that I don't like Advanced Wars even though I don't say it's a must get game. I've just had 9 years playing AOE & and even longer playing Daisenryaku, so I guess my problem is not being open minded in letting newer games take over my life. That just reminded me of a game that needs to come to the VC, Master Of Monsters that was such a cool game. Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 13, 2007, 03:54:08 PM have you played military madness on the vc for the tg16? its a very good game in the same vein as advance wars but with a less unrealistic approach. if you like more modern lookin units and such. certainly not a bad investment for 6 bucks. if youre not sure check out a review on gamespot.com. i highly recommend it myself as it was pretty fun and tactical.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 13, 2007, 03:54:50 PM there are so many game for the ds!! i cant choose AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
i heard that Age of Empires freezes a lot from the readers reviews at ign is this true??? Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: iimawii™ on February 14, 2007, 02:34:07 AM From the days I've investing into playing Age Of Empires, I haven't experienced any freezing/lag, only reminiscences of the good old pc days.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 14, 2007, 11:22:03 AM one thing ive heard is that naming your character certain names will crash it, the name ive heard was bob. for some odd reason it doesnt like repeating letters..... its got a few other crashes in the game that ive seen. for the most part if you save often youll be fine usually. aside from that its a good game. be carefull on the last mission as it freezes and crashes the most.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: NobodyexpectsJINJO on February 14, 2007, 11:33:07 AM Adv Wars DS has a tutorial on the 1st mission, in fact the first mission IS the tutorial...gmaes to reccomend hmmmmmmm AW DS, Super Mario 64 DS, Animal Crossing WW, and Mario Kart DS
p.s. i dont hav ACWW but my sisters hav it and ive played it and i hav the one for the GC Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 14, 2007, 12:51:35 PM like 5 out o 9 ppl said it froze on them like more then 1 time that why i was asking....and i dont see what is so good about AC i payed it on gcn and i hated it it was so gay!
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 14, 2007, 01:48:40 PM ac is something you either get or you dont. its more of a customiization game. the fun really shows when you compare your game to someone elses and see how different your town can really become from that of another friends town. if you want a game that really shows off the ds functionality you might wanna try kirby canvas curse. very good game and it can get really hard if you play with one of the secret characters. it shouldve dropped in price by now. if that doesnt tickle your fancy and you liked the one on snes i would HIGHLY recommend yoshi's island ds. its awesome and will make you have flashbacks of the snes game. theres nothing quite like the feeling of extended flutter jumping off of a stilt guy while aiming an egg to hit a fly guy carrying one of the red coins needed for the coveted 100 points for each level. i love this gaaaame!
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 14, 2007, 03:03:23 PM so what did your really have to do in animal crossing?
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 15, 2007, 12:47:53 PM CUSTOMIZATION!! to tell the truth there really wasnt a clear cut goal. you basically move to a new town with no money (called bells in this game) a friendly and conniving raccoon ends up hooking you up with a house and leaves you with a loan debt. after doing some penny jobs in the town youre free to explore. wanna go fishing? buy a rod and go fishing! wanna dig up fossils to fill out the museum? feel free to do so! personally i focused on getting my house as large as possible, collected all manner of game related items (such as a replica of the arwing, or the master sword in its stone) then decorated my house thusly. you can make patterns for your clothes such as drawings and pics, and everything is really dynamic. everything you do has an effect on the game. plant a coconut and a tree pops up sometime later which will eventually grow more coconuts, put a pattern on display and watch as some of your neighbors change clothes, possibly even to your displayed pattern if they like it..... attend birthday parties, festivals, all kinds of things can be done in this game! its a real cerebral game at times though and if you dont like the sims or something similar you may not like this game. no you dont have to send your character to the bathroom. either waaaay, its one of those that doesnt have a clearcut goal..... you simply play it the way you want to. its kinda refreshing since nearly every game has you doing something pretty linear and its fun to have something that you decide what to do every now and then.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 15, 2007, 01:54:44 PM Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! they stopped making this game!
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: iimawii™ on February 15, 2007, 02:23:22 PM Which game? One game that I had the hardest time looking for because it had been discontinued was Lost In Blue. Their coming out with Lost In Blue 2 in late March.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 15, 2007, 03:15:06 PM Advance wars! DS i called EBgames and they said that they had none and that they discontinued it!
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 15, 2007, 07:29:20 PM yes i found a brand spanking new version of advance wars on ebay!
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on February 16, 2007, 11:02:08 AM dont go crazy. its not impossible to find it new, heck we have one new where i work. just because somethings been discontinued doesnt mean it will never come out again. heck trauma center and pheonix wright were both discontinued and recontinued. i think both of those titles are discontinued as of this moment. just keep looking and you can find it, and dont be afraid to buy it used.
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: iimawii™ on February 16, 2007, 11:06:50 AM True starlitalpha, but as far as Lost In Blue goes I've only been able to find 1 copy in a long time, maybe 6 months. That game just isn't a well known as your Advanced Wars, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Centre.... :em-8:
Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: MysticGohan on February 16, 2007, 02:40:02 PM dont go crazy. its not impossible to find it new, heck we have one new where i work. just because somethings been discontinued doesnt mean it will never come out again. heck trauma center and pheonix wright were both discontinued and recontinued. i think both of those titles are discontinued as of this moment. just keep looking and you can find it, and dont be afraid to buy it used. i bought a new version for $39 cdnTitle: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: NobodyexpectsJINJO on March 22, 2007, 11:43:52 AM Used games are cheaper, most of them work too, the only used game i ever bought that didn't work was Kingdom Hearts for the PS2 so we traded that one in for one that worked, but if i can't find a used, i get it new. My dad is the excact opposite, he buys stuff as cheap as possible.
Anyways, I'm still stuck on AW: DS lol, I've used EVERY method of help and I still lose...crappy eh? Title: Re: Advance Wars: Dual Strike question Post by: starlitalpha on March 23, 2007, 01:55:04 PM yeah, halfway through advance wars i lose interest because it turns into you doing the one single solution to the level. its not so much skill needed to beat the level but you doing things just as the developers intended. good game nonetheless
