It's about creating something that the majority of people don't have or seen regardless of how much it costs.
This portable NES plays built in games and actual NES carts (http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/5224/all4skynesp0157cg.jpg) (http://img63.echo.cx/img63/9861/all4skynesp0149ni.jpg) Now we all know a gba cart could have been cheaper, but people really enjoy building these kind of things.
