Yeah I'm having a bit of slowdown, too.  I don't know if it's too many users or if your internet is to blame.  If it's not your internet connection, then post a question to meridian blade.

Its definetly internet connection. At college, I have barely any problems with Wiivo. It goes on and flows fairly well. However, at home I have dial-up and I'm lucky if the page loads for me. I use to have this same problem with Newgrounds.com, and after awhile I just gave up on the entire site......hopefully that won't be the case for Wiivolution.

Anyways, I also experience a problem that I will be logged in, and doing something, and then it tells me I'm not logged in for whatever random reason. Its not too much of a bother, I can always log back in....but sometimes its all too frequent and is a bit of a bother. It might be internet connection again. Because I experience this problem much more at home than at college. And I notice, if I do get kicked off at college its usually because I'm just sitting at my computer, doing nothing. However, at home with dial-up, things take longer to load and then next you know I'm brought to a screen that says "OH NO! Meridianblade hates you and has tea-bagged your entire family. Please log back in before your testicles are chopped off by a Silverback ape dual wielding lightsabers."

I'm usually slower at school when on Wii-vo. At home, I am running on Cable, but at school we run on T1. The only problem is that our school runs tons of computers at one single time, which incredibly makes T1 feel like near Dial-Up to basic DSL.

I just noticed a major slow down on my home network. I am currently the only person on my network connected, but the front page takes more than 10 seconds to load, which is a long time for a Cable connection.

Not that I can't wait or anything, it just sometimes gets annoying after quickly navigating from website-to-website without any loads and coming to check Wii-vo for some news, etc. for a few seconds before hopping along to the next site and it just slows down and I have to open a new tab.

the problems rather elusive... and I place emphasis on rather. I don't understand why it would be the frontpage only. I didn't change anything major...

Recompiled: Apache and PHP
Reset the Apache httpd.conf file (were some errors)
Optimized the php.ini file
Uninstalled some frontpage modules, bots, and unused components...
Some other misc things.

The main problem is were outgrowing the server again but these changes should last us months.

Well, wii-vo's not the only thing on this server, theres other sites and a host of services running that contribute.

Ok, I'm having a bit of a slowdown for the frontpage, it usually takes a second or two.. you think you can fix this M-blade?

Ps: i'll move this to site improvement. It seems more fitting there.

I've done as much as I can about the front page, if that's the only thing slowing down then i say it's not to bad. The only other option is upgrading the server and that's money I don't have right now.

Out of Curiosity: How much money would you have to put in to upgrade the server?

Title: Re: Wii-volution problems
Post by: meridianblade on April 07, 2007, 12:50:38 PM
next upgrade would be over 100 bucks a month.

ouch.

All I can say is...I have a job as a ref and I make at MAXIMUM $42 a game...its an ok payrate...i guess. And Judging by your sig I'm gonna say happy 20th Birthday in advance...am I right?

Yea, it alot of cash to spend on a server + advertising. Im probably not going to upgrade till our ads make us atleast 100+ a month. Hopefully next month or the next I can do the upgrade.

Yep, im turning 20 on monday, woot!

Maybe I'll post some sort of Happy Birthday on the front page on monday

At my school today, I noticed the site running much better than usual (at my school). The login mumbo-jumbo seems to be fixed for me, by that I mean it says I'm not logged in on certain pages but others it does.

Whatever you did, it helped me access the site during school.  :em-11:

Maybe it's just a bad connection to the server :? I don't know...:?
But it seems to work fine for me...
