Title: Something New
Post by: Puff Daddy on July 24, 2006, 11:52:35 PM
It seems that everyone is looking forward to the Virtual Console concept and ready to dish out some pretty pennies for old games.

Now here's a new idea that I have been guilty of for quite some time now, and its time for me to come out with it to help stir up some new talk.

Am I the only one that just doesn't care?

Sure! Old games are great! I love Sonic 1, 2, 3, Pinball, 3D, and you name it. Two Crude Dudes was amazing. And who could forget Ristar or Bubsy? Or what about good ol' whatever....

But really who cares? I can buy old games for my new system, its convenient....sure...its there...yeah....but I just simply don't care. I'm not saying Nintendo shouldn't do it, I know Xbox's arcade classic online is sweeping in some serious cash. And thats just crappy Atari games remade with prettier colors, faster/tighter gameplay. So old games like Mario Bros, Goldeneye, Sega this and Nintendo that should give gamers a hard-on.

But me....

Nothing.

Who cares? I don't. I don't plan on getting these games just on the idea that I think this is a waste. This is a friggin game console that uses motion-sensing, and you want to play 8-bit communist Mario? Screw that.

Let me catch passes from Carson Palmer in Madden '07. Let me drive with reckless abandon in Excite Truck. Let me light the world by poking cute little freaks in Elebits. Let me slit throats in Red Steel.

Forget the past. We've been doing the past for the last 15 years. The same simple concept of smashing buttons together to get the right combo and get PERFECT in some game title. The Wii is the future. Its the first step towards virtual reality. So why take it backwards?

You do realise that you can opt not to download those classics, don't you? :?

I'm sure there will be a few people like that who will spend money only on the new games, but there is a lot more that will buy the old classic games that they used to play and love. It's also great for times when maybe there is a drought in quality games like we've had with the GC so many times before.

Do you really want to try all the motion sensory stuff when you're really tired or have a hangover? This could be perfect for all those times.

Yeah, but it would be awesome to play on a Nintendo Wii game when p1ssed. Especially something like Resident Evil or Metroid Prime 3 when they are released. Even Wario Ware: Smooth Moves! :P

I could imagine a fighting game like Fight Night would be a great stress reliever. Just imagine letting out all your frustration on some guy in the game.

Yeah, I hear ya...I know you have an option of not downloading it. I just wanted to voice a different opinion. A lot of people seem to be looking forward to the Virtual Console and even hoping it comes to the DS, but I just simply don't care....nor do I have any interest in playing 'old school' games.

That's what games like Resident Evil 4 and GTA are for- with things like Mercenaries mode and the wondering pedestrians. :P

Anywhooo, I'm one of those people that is looking forward to getting to play some of the games that I have missed out on.

I never got the chance to play Mario rpg for the SNES because I was too young and it didn't come out in the UK so I'm looking foward to playing that when they bring it out.

Yeah there are a lot of games that even people in my generation missed out on or came out early on that we didn't get to play. So it will be a great way to catch up a play the classics.

That's exactly why I am looking forward to playing on the Virtual Console system. Well, that and the fact that I am a really HUGE fan of nostalgia. :D

I think Nintendo is trying to put the old games back out for all the people that never owned them. For example, I've never owned a SNES and we sold our NES, so I'd love to play some old time games, or maybe some games I've never played before.

Old consoles are VERY hard to find and are expensive on Ebay if you find one. My friend has a NES and it is very fun. He left it at my house one day and I played it for like 4 hours strait. I don't have a NES or SNES. Just N64 GC and Wii for me. I'll be downloading NES games until some good SNES or N64 games come out. Now if you have a N64 then go to gamestop and pick up the game you want. Jet Force Gemini was only 3 bucks. But some games like Super Smash Bros, Banjo-kazzoie and Snowboard Kids are 20 bucks. So if you have a N64 and want games go to gamestop and get some games there. I've seen some NES game prices at Gamestop. they are only $1-$3. Very cheap. If you don't have a NES then don't buy one on Ebay and buy games at Gamestop. Just download from Wii.

just an idea but some systems are so old that they can be legally romified. so it's seems kind of a waste to pay for them on the new system. Just get them for free and save your money for more new games.
