Which console will be better for younger kids?
«

I am a gamer and a father (5 kids, lets not go there). I like my games and like to let them play once in awhile too. Though I have never owned a Nintendo system, besides the Gameboy Advanced and DS, I am pretty set on the Wii this time around. The price, the cool Wii-remote and, as I see it, Nintendo's idea of making games fun for everyone are all reasons I am going with the Wii.
Nintendo has a good balance between games for hard-core gamer and games for the less hard core.
I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts were one the subject. Is the Wii the best next console to get?
Thanks,
rob

The Wii is definitely the best console, especially if children will be playing it. There are so many games that are good for kids (Elebits, Rayman, Barnyard) and so many games that are good for older players (Red Steel, Zelda, Super Smash). The Wii is way different from the PS3 and the Xbox 360 in many ways. PS3 and Xbox 360 are overpriced, if not overpriced, too much money unless you're a hard core fan. The PS3 and Xbox 360 focus more on graphics, not fun. PS3 and Xbox 360 sell more games for adults than for family's or kids (Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto, True Crime)
Anyway, if you plan to have fun, I'd say the Wii is the way to go. :-D

Yup. Nintendo consoles and the handhelds have always been kid-friendly so getting a Wii is probably the best choice for your family.
Besides, has anyone here seen that creepy commercial for the PS3? I'm talking about the creepy doll.. It's clear that they are not targeting little kids with that ad!

There are benefits that each console can give to a wide range of people, though it's easy to see that the postives far out weight the negatives in regards to the Wii.
Attributes:
Firstly, you have 5 kids, you're probably tight on space? Unless you have a huge house and each kid has like 3 rooms and a bathroom each (You're very lucky and so are you kids if this is true :-P) But, the system is minute next to the PS3/360 (Check the Wii-vo frontpage for a pic comparison) so you can slip it away down the side of the T.V or out of the way.
Price:
It's the cheapest by far, and not only a cheaper console but cheaper games, like £10/dollar comparison at times, as is with the DS, games with less of a content will cost less, so you're not paying X amount for a game for the kids as you would be with a game like Zelda. So if the kids want Happy Feet or another kiddy game of the like, its going to cost you less as well.
Fun for everyone:
You and the kids should have unlimited fun, when there go to bed you can play some of the games you want, more hardcore gamer stuff, Zelda, Red Steel, Call of Duty 3, Excite Truck (if you live in america) and the kids can play Wii Sports (which you'll get free with the console).
Easy Internet access/Wii channels:
Nintendo wanted to create an internet service/interface that everyone could sit around and use at the same time, keeping you round the tv rather than a PC screen. You can check the weather before you go out for the day, check news headlines and maybe even access the internet and book a holiday with the kids, its really what you make of it. Even the Mii channel will keep you and the kids busy, can create them all and use them in games, so each of your kids has a character of themselves.
Virtual Console/Backwards compatibility:
You say that you've never owned a Nintendo console apart from a GBA and a DS, well you can download games from the Virtual Console from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Megadrive/Genesis and others, which means you can check out Nintendo (and Sega's) past histroy of games.
If your kids or yourself want a new game but don't wanna spend X amount, then you could download an old game for a cheap price to keep you tied over in the slow times that the console world can sometimes suffer from.
Other stuff:
Wireless controllers, no wires to trip over (though all 3 consoles now implement this)
It's quiet, no massive fan inside to drown out talking in the room
Innovation, playing games will feel new again
Easy to use, no hard-drives, easy to set up
Minimal loading times, turn on the Wii, 2 seconds, Choose a Wii game, loads up in 3 seconds, so you're not waiting around with sometimes impatient children.
Hope this helps, anything else, let me know. :-)

Wii!! I think it is really going to revolutionize the industry. It will really change the way people play and bring people together, especially the party games like Super Monkey Ball & Wii Sports. Great for a family.

Haha...when you typed your name, I hadn't read the whole thing and when I read 'rob' and 'christmas' I thought your were 'definetely going to rob [from someone] the Wii for Christmas.'
Thus a lesson learned in scanning phrases.
