"Nintendo has confirmed that a Wii with DVD playback support will make its way to the States, and said that the price would be increased as a result of the added features.

The Wii DVD playback support is being handled by Sonic Solutions, the same guys behind the Roxio CD and DVD burning software.

It will be using this company’s CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator to play DVDs. This DVD-capable version of the Wii is expected to arrive in the States in the latter half of next year, which is around the same time Japan is expected to receive them.

Nintendo commented that the cost of this newer Wii will be higher than the current $249 price tag."

I don't plan on buying it either... I'll have a Wii come tomorrow night and thats fine. I already have a DVD player in every room that has a TV, so don't really need another one.

That is true just like the 360 and their stupidity of saying that it can play HD-DVD's and then closer to launch come to find out you have to buy the add-on HD-DVD player. 360 should have just held off or decided earlier to just add the HD-DVD player inside it.

Truthfully I think it's retarded to buy a gaming console and then use it to play movies. My PS2 broke because I watched movies on it, so I bet anything the PS3 will have it's share of problems a year down the line, and possibly the Wii-DVD will have them aswell. People need to stop being stupid and use their dust-covered standalone DVD players to play their movies, and for those now wanting Blu Ray go buy that $750 player...
