Well, according to Kotaku the Japanese are definitely looking forward to the new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii. They're looking more forward to it than they are to Final Fantasy XIII !
Take a looksee ->

After reading quite a bit on the new Zelda and the new control scheme - I'm hoping they sort out some issues. I'm very much excited about being able to swing the Master Sword and hear it clang as it hits an enemy. Most of the previews I've read say the control scheme was a bit strange to pick up.
But then again, I don't normally swing my TV remote around in my living room either.

It'll be pretty moderate of a learning curve but we'll get used to it

Yeah, I think that since I've been playing games with a gamepad all my life, it will be different and strange to start playing with the wii-mote... but still awesome and it can't be that hard to grasp the controls, I hope.

Still, won't there be a normal gamepad?

Yeah, but I mean, most games will use the wiimote and it's obviously going to be more fun with the wiimote, it'll just be a little strange at first...

well - the Gamecube version will use a gamepad - but the Wii version is supposed to only use the Wii-mote.

I've heard alot of retailers in Japan expect to sell more of the Wii than Playstation 3.
And as for Twilight Princess, it's the first game I plan on getting for the Wii, and when Nintendo comes out and says this is the greatest Zelda they have ever made people are going to get really excited.

As of E3, it seems that people who follow video games closely are generally more excited for the Wii or Xbox 360. Sony shot itself in the foot with the PS3's sticker price and not to mention, many of its features are rip offs from the Wii or 360.
I never really cared for Zelda, partly because I hate thinking while playing a game. Mindless gameplay tends to be what I go for...however, the Wii is a little different and the Twilight Princess may be the way to go, and give me a major reason to like Zelda.
So if the WIi wins in Japan, and the positive momentum in DS sells, one would think the Wii would gain popularity in the states as well....I hope this equation is true, because I want the Wii but I don't want a Mario: insert subtitle here or Donkey Kong: insert subtitle here every other game. The Wii is innovative, but I don't want a relapse in game variety.

How should they call a Mario game then? Toad: Help Mario or Bowser: Marry Princess Peach? The name gets its name from its protagonist... If your point is that Wii should create its own new heroes then I am with you!
As for the Zelda things, Zelda games were the only games that made me cry too. Link's "aaaahh" when he felt into gap in the Ganon battle were amazingly bad for me. Plus the feeling the game was giving to me. It was like entering Hyrule. I think you should try it, no matter it is "non mindless".
To get on topic, Japanese were always Nintendo sided and against Sony. Nintendo's deal is to take over the American (firstly) and European markets.

Most of Nintendo's money comes from Japan. The GC did much better over there, so once they establish a good support with the Wii in Japan they need to work harder for America and Europe, where they've had trouble in recent years thanks to the kiddie image.
I understand what you mean NTTA, but Nintendo showed a lot of new games that look really interesting, like Disaster Day of Crysis and Excite Truck. And developers will try out new stuff and original game ideas with the Wii because it's so different.

They've not always been anti-Sony... but not exactly always pro-Sony either. We stinking Americans have been too easily impressed by good hardware specs and were definitely more pro-Sony than the Japs, but hopefully the tide will turn now that Sony's grasping at straws to stay on top.
