With all the talk about Excite Truck on this site, I'm surprised nobody has made a thread about it yet. So I guess I will do just that.

Firstly, I don't really know a great deal about this or any of the "Excite" games' history. What I do know, however, is that tilting the controller back and forth keeps your vehicle in time with the terrain, which changes underneath you as you drive. I am also aware that using the wiimote in a steering wheel-like fashion allows you to drive.

I am pondering about whether to get(or try to get) this game on release or not. So what do you guys think so far?

I think it's a cool game, but I doubt I'll have enough money for it. There are so many games I want but I'm not huge on racing games anyway.

I'm not too keen on driving games myself. Although, in this case, I may make an exception. The control method intruiges me. Smiley

Yeah, I showed my girlfriend a screenshot of the game that was in my latest GI and she loved it. Well she was more interested in it then any of the other games I had showed her for the Wii. So maybe I'll have to get that one now just so we can play something together. Or better yet she could give it to me as a gift then we can both play it. I wouldn't mind at all.

Still no answer to this topic, strange thing!

(Yeah, rightly guessed, I am back. I have a new gf and...ok...you know how the first days with new gfs are.. The real problem is that every day is like the first day... Tongue And the fact that she isn't aware of Nintendo!!! Cheesy)

Well, to get back on topic, Excite Truck looks interesting but with so many other great games out by then I think I am gonna give it a lot of tries before buying it...

I read a big article on NFS Carbon and it looks like a lot of fun. It's a completely different style of racing though. I'd like to play Excite Truck before I decide entirely against it, because it could be a lot of fun. Let's hope Nintendo includes a demo/preview disc packaged in with the Wii.

I heard Excite Truck is going to play out much like Burnout, which is good news since Burnout is such a great game. However, crashing cars is only fun for a few hours, after that Burnout is placed next to your console, permanently, and left there to collect dust. Hopefully, Excite Truck can keep that spark of gameplay value alive.

Should be a good game for some time at least. I'm (most likely) going to get it.

I still play Burnout from time to time. My best friend always likes to play with me. I wish they had made the sequels for the GC. But I don't think Excite Truck is really similar to Burnout because Burnout is 50% about the crazy speed and 50% about the crashes and I don't think there are going to be any crashes or crash replays in Excite Truck.

Yeah...when i think about it, I don't want Excite Truck to be like Burnout....but I don't want it to be a racing simulator like FORZA or a complete arcade racer like Need For Speed. That leaves....nothing....

Great.

So I don't really know what I want Excite Truck to be like, but not exactly like Burnout. The crashes would be cool, but running over things would be just as cool as well, I hope Nintendo comes out with a unique racer that doesn't feel like Mario Kart. I hope you can unlock the original Excite Truck after beating the Wii Excite Truck, the controller with motion would fit perfect to make it feel like the actual arcade version of the original game.

Good god....I forget how to HTML, I sure could cut down that link if I rememered. Anyways....the article is something like this:

Quote
If there's one type of gaming that truly benefits from Wii's sensory-overload controller, it's the racing genre. Instead of holding the wand like a pointer, you use both hands to position it horizontally - like a steering wheel. Everyone, in theory, knows how to drive using a wheel. This makes Excite Truck all the easier to play, and its accessibility is only enhanced by its amazing simplicity.

For E3, Nintendo had two levels to try out, one tropical and another an arid desert. Regardless of which we played, it was clear that Truck was all about speed. The only buttons you use are the two on the wand's surface... and they're gas and brake. While in the air (and you will catch some serious air), you can rotate the wand to re-level the truck for a solid landing, giving you a fiery speed boost that rockets you ahead of the pack. And that's it. Jam down the gas and go.

So, yes, it's fast and it's fun. That's the most important part. But Excite Truck is pretty damn ugly. There's still plenty of time to clean things up, and for what it's worth, it does look like a modern-day GameCube title. But there were pretty scarce visual effects - in what we played, the trucks didn't even seem to phase the dirt tracks they were driving on. It looked like they were floating and sliding across the terrain instead of digging in.

But again, this still felt early. There's no solid release date, but given its name (a reference to the NES classic Excitebike, which was a launch title), there's a pretty fair chance we'll see more joyous trucking soon.ii: The most excitable trucks you'll ever see

Gameplay good, graphics piss poor. Hopefully they can buff up the graphics (as expected) and make this game a modern day classic.

I'm surprised they said the graphics were bad, from the videos and screenshots I thought it looked really good.

It's funny how before E3 and before there was more info on the wiimote. I was so worried about how they could ever do a racing game. I didn't think they could do it, but boy was I wrong.
