I have $158.00 should I buy a DS Lite at this time of year or should I keep my money for another hand held that might come out later in the year?  :|

As of now, no other handhelds are coming out this year. If you want to, you can wait until E3 in July and find out more information about any handhelds from Nintendo or Sony (if, somehow, you liked the PSP) or even Microsoft (Don't cross your fingers).

So if you can stand to wait until July, try to. Or, since you've waited this long to get the DS, you can wait for any newer handhelds, get the DS. There are plenty of games out there and the console is only in it's 3rd year. (Well 3rd in November.)

Welcome to Wii-vo. And I would get the DS now, as I haven't heard anything, not even rumors, about a new handheld.

Yeah, just get a DS Lite, otherwise your going to have to wait a REALLY LONG TIME if you want to get a next gen handheld, or like Supertongue said, wait until E3.

Who knows when the next handhelds will come out, but unless you are planning on getting Wii games later on (or now) I would buy a DS Lite, too.

I also forgot to mention that, as you probably heard, the DS has tons of great games. Thus meaning it'll hold you over for years. (I've had my original DS since midnight on launch day along with my DS Lite on midnight on launch day and I still play DS games.)

Also, support won't be dropped immediately when the new handheld comes out. The GBA lasted just about 2 years after the DS came out, and the DS is sure to follow in its footsteps when the next handheld comes out, seeing as the DS and DS Lite sold and are still selling opposite of how fast the PS3s sell.

lol... There's more proof that you don't need the cutting edge technology to sell stuff to people.

The only other hand held that I've heard of is a rumored PSP2. So if you have the money, I would just go ahead and buy a NDS. Although people have different tastes and there's always the possibility (like Stongue said) of someone unveiling one at E3.

The rumors are a that the PSP2 will be a PSP  that uses DS style card games instead of UMDs and it will be slimmed down a bit.  (It won't be any different hardware speaking).  This is the most likely PSP2.  The second rumor is that Sony is making a DS look-a-like with a PSP-size top screen and it will use DS style game cards (less likely and probably copyright infringing).

So buy a DS Lite, unless you want to wait for two or three more years when they release another. (I don't know when they will release another handheld, I'm just guessing).

With how sales are going and plans for connectivity to the Wii, I would imagine as long as the Wii lasts. So perhaps another 5 years. After that, Nintendo will definetly have something new out by then.

I'd think the same thing. Though it's plenty possible that Nintendo could come out with another handheld within the next few years because they can easily make it connect with the Wii also. But they most likely won't do it because there are so many people who own a DS that it would be like forcing them to buy the next handheld to use it with the Wii.
