I read a post on this forum and the poster (sorry for not remembering his/her name) said that he/she was a Sega fan but now he/she is with Ninty to take over the lead again. What I immediately wondered about was, do you prefer Sega or Microsoft and Sony for our rivals?

In my opinion the Sega Rivalty times were better by far! I mean, we were rivals but they were great, they were a games company (not like Sony and Microsoft that put music and media players to their consoles), they created heros like Sonic (and not like the Halo Superman or sex symbol Lara Croft), they were searching for GAMING evolution. They were ORIGINAL. These times were romantic. I think that TURE Sega fans are with Nintendo nowdays because Nintendo is expressing what Sega was also expressing: video games love. We love the game, not everything that makes us rich! I don't say they are doing it to offer us fun no matter what the cost for them is but at least they care about video games.

Hey, don't diss Lara  Sad Lara is cool and hot. But I do agree that Nintendo is more for games rather than a multimedia machine... and it's better because it's a videoGAME console, not a "mp3player- dvd,-tv-videogame- stereo-karaoke- computer- blender" console.

i loved it when it was sega/nintendo, waiting for to see how the games played, and what consoles would be next Cheesy i had the genisis, nes, super nes, and dreamcast Cheesy o how i loved them and their difference.

nintendo vs microsoft + sony isnt cool. microsoft just sucks as most everything it does unitl like 8 years later, and sony is basically out of the game console market with its new 'computer', so its to easy for nintendo to win

I don't diss Lara, I also had my Lara-is-the-woman-I-want-NOW period. It is only that she is not what I want from games...

It's all good now.  Sega releases their games for Nintendo consoles.  I can buy a Wii and play Sonic and Mario on with the same machine Smiley

Sega - Nintendo is a classic battle. I hope one day Sega can pull itself from the deep dark pits of third partyism, to respark the old war.

However, I don't agree with the idea that a video game console should be just that. Look at cell phones nowadays, you can't buy one without a camera in it or games and what not in it. Its not a phone anymore. Its a device that enables communication, both through visual and audio. Whether its calling a friend, downloading a background, or taking pictures with the "phone," its still more than a phone.

I think this is how video games should be. As a worldly society, we are growing to want more. That is always how it has been. And if it can fit in a normal CD, why not be able to play a DVD as well? Its initially all the same thing. Not only that, but should I mention even Nintendo has gone this route of combining being able to do more than one media (video games).  In Wii-Sports you can place your face on a player...I'm guessing the only way to do this is through a wii-camera, which is most likely going to operate like PS2's eyetoy camera. See, Nintendo has mad a mix. And I would like to see Nintendo take that step and allow a game console to play DVDs and such, because its an added bonus that is a huge sells pitch. I remember when PS2 was new and hearing about that it could play DVDS, that made me so happy because I never had a DVD player before then and my PS2 was going to do it all for me.

The problem appears when companies focus more on these other stuff. When you (you=a company) care more about your future console's "non-games" things then you "relegate" games and they become worse. I would never buy a Nintendo console if Nintendo decided to put away games. This has never happened and I hope it won't happen because that's why I am still with Nintendo. It will be like Ninty betraying us. I mean, if I want a machine that can connect to the web, play games, listen to music, watch films then I am not going to buy a console but a PC... Now what, PS 3 with CPU and Graphical Device that you can change, improve and update? Is that a console? C'mon...

I don't see Nintendo forgetting gaming. Seeing as it has kept cranking out the same characters since the NES, which is another problem that I have with Nintendo....every other game is Donkey Kong, or Mario with Zelda or Metroid thrown in there every now and then, but thats a different argument.

Sure, buying a PS3 which basically does everything a computer can but at a much cheaper cost than a computer does kind of seem pointless. But fact is, if you can shove a CD in there than how hard is it to throw a DVD in it as well? As well as your argument of...

connect to the web,

...the Wii is going to connect to the web.

To me, Nintendo won't forget its roots because its roots are the only things that has kept the company alive. It has taken innovative steps already with the wii-mote, how hard is it to make the Wii play a DVD as well? Its a nice package to have a game console that is willing to push the limits and go beyond just gaming, thats why the PS2 and Xbox did so well.

However, the innovation that there was PS2 and Xbox was destroyed going into the next generation war....the PS3 and 360 are just an upgraded extension of their predecessors. Wii is not like the others, it is something new and innovative. A DVD player, and internet connection was innovative for the PS2/Xbox, and now it seems like its standard.

I don't find it bad to put in some things (like the web connections) to improve gaming. Nintendo isn't going to equip Wii with the web connection to download movies or music. It will be just to enhance our gaming experience.

Spawn got me, Sony is an ELECTRONICS company. Trying to mix games with electronics is bad, trying to persuade people that it is the new gaming generation is even worse.
