Nintendo to Introduce MotionPlus PDF Print E-mail

wiimotion.jpgWhile rumors about Microsoft and Sony throwing their hat into the motion sending ring, Nintendo has turned it up a notch and revealed that they will be releasing an attachment for the Wiimote to enhance motion detection. While final details will be given during E3 we do have some information on the attachment, here is the information that was released.

Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

The details don't give information on the nunchuck or about how it's motion will be enhanced. I'm sure they have that figured out because not including the nunchuck would give some games that rely on it a lop sided feel. It's great to see that Nintendo is advancing the technology that makes the Wii what it is. I can also say as a Wii user I gladly welcome improvement considering I often find the sensor bar inadequate and unable to detect the Wiimote effectively. I guess we'll see more details revealed soon at E3.

Re: Nintendo to Introduce MotionPlus
How is this really a good thing? This is essentially Nintendo admitting that the Wiimote sucks. They should have saved it for the Wii 2. Right now its just another attatchment to the Wiimote which will ad bulk and line the pockets of Nintendo. How much does a consumer have to dish out for this thing? And will it really be used much? I have no problem with my Wii's sensor - granted its not perfect, but right now...who cares? Nintendo should be introducing me to third party developers and producers willing to put out on their console instead of more shit to shove onto the bottom of their wiimote.

Re: Nintendo to Introduce MotionPlus
Agreed. It's nice to see them improving on their product but why didn't the have this feature in the beginning? I would much rather see more third party games--good one mind you--instead of one more attachment.
