Miyamoto, while being plucked for information from IGN, was asked about the storage issue with the Wii. He didn't give much of an answer and basically said that they are "thinking about it." Pretty disheartening for Wii owners. This far into the game and they're only contemplating what to do with storage? Seems that soon or later we'll get some sort of attachment that we have to shell out another $100 for instead of the system already having it. In the end I think we're better of getting a new Wii console with all the stuff that should have been in it to begin with.
There isn't anything that we can announce today, but we have been
thinking along a variety of different lines regarding this matter for
some time now," Miyamoto commented. "So my hope is that sometime
in the not too distant future we will be able to discuss some concrete
solutions.
Either way you look at it, there's no plans at this moment for extra storage. Support for external drives may be the best solution at this point. The complete failure of the PS2 hard drive shows a specific hard drive extension is not the best route to take. They could also find a way to support larger SD cards considering they now go up to 32GB. I don't know the technical possibilities but these are decent solutions. Perhaps wireless use of you PC's hard drive would work as well. Either way I hope to see something in the future. A media center and DVD support would be great too--a feature wish list could go on forever--let's hope we see some decent improvements without draining our bank accounts.
