It was bound to happen. A Wii modder that goes by the name Waninkoko has released the first custom firmware for the Wii that allows you to play from rewritable disks. The installer works rather easily, you put the file onto your SD card and load it into your Wii. Definitely not something I would suggest you do. Many people have bricked their PSP's doing the exact same thing. That leads to the next question on how Nintendo will deal with the custom firmware. Chances are they will take the same steps sony has in what can be described as a cat and mouse game between them and modders.

Wii-volution discourages you from this so go on about it at your own risk. The last thing you need is a pretty little $250 paper weight. It's only a matter of time before Nintendo addresses the recent developments. I'm also not sure if they will at all. I'm sure as the firmware becomes more advanced--such as replacing the need to buy games or use the virtual console--they will have to do something.
On the same topic of discussion, TeamShift has released a working--when I say working I mean barely--psp emulator for the Wii. The emulator can get about 7 fps so it's easy to see that it's very unusable.
We are very proud to present our latest creation
this affects both the wii: No emulator $ PsP which emulates the psp on wii!
The emulator does not read actuelement the CSO nor the DAX, only the
ISO, and runs between 4 and 8 fps (which is far from a perfect
emulation.)
In order to correct some bugs still quite annoying, to post the next few days. We wish to thank the creator of the source potemkin, because it is a little grace has it that we have the ariver or we actuelment.
We wish you a rapelez that the version we will posterons a beta version which is far to run their games has vitèsses normal.
The point is, I'm sure, that it has potential. We all know how Sony feels about such things and I highly doubt Nintendo will like it much either. The problem for Nintendo will be keeping up with the modders as they tend to be very clever individuals. We'll keep you up to date on all this and see where it goes.
